DUI Checkpoints Roll Out Across PA For Super Bowl Weekend

DUI Checkpoints Roll Out Across PA For Super Bowl Weekend

A recent story by Eyewitness News reports that Pennsylvania State Police have announced the implementation of DUI checkpoints across various roadways in the state for the duration of February 2024.

The sobriety checkpoints and roving patrols, part of a zero-tolerance enforcement policy, are aimed at deterring instances of drinking and driving, according to authorities. During the upcoming Mardi Gras weekend, one or more checkpoints and roving patrols will be strategically placed on roads with high rates of DUI-related traffic violations and crashes throughout Pennsylvania.

Officials stress the importance of responsible decision-making, advising individuals who choose to consume alcohol during the weekend Super bowl festivities to refrain from driving.

Drivers are reminded of Pennsylvania’s DUI laws, which set a legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) limit of 0.08%. Penalties for DUI offenses can range from a $300 fine with six months of probation to fines of up to $5,000 and prison sentences of up to five years.

One of the participating counties for  DUI checkpoints included Snyder County, where three arrests have already been made as a result of these measures from November. However, specific details regarding the locations of the DUI patrols this month were not provided by the Pennsylvania State Police.

In November in Snyder county, State police conducted sobriety checkpoints, resulting in three people’s arrest for various DUI violations.

According to Pennsylvania State Police, on November 22 troopers conducted DUI checkpoints on various roadways in Northumberland County.

The checkpoints resulted in three driver’s arrests for driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance.

Pennsylvania State Police notes that 73 motorists were pulled over and six traffic citations were issued.

State police say the goal of a sobriety checkpoint is to reduce the number of alcohol and drug-related fatal and serious crashes, along with reducing the number of DUI drivers on Pennsylvania highways.
